I stick to film because I prefer slides to prints or images on the computer when I want pictures of my travels to friends. But Photoworks gives me slides, negatives (and prints if I wanted) and keeps all of it digitalized on its own site.

Yes, Beachbum. That is another aspect of digital photography I didn't mention - fun! That was part of the reason I got one when I did. I had been so busy with work and two kids that I wasn't picking up the camera as much as I used to. The digital camera has changed that. I would like to get another wide angle next year but not right now. Between the camera, flash, computer, L zoom last year, a dear just hitting my car....I don't need to spring for another lens right now. Thanks for the recommendation though. That is one lens I definitely have my eye on.

Michael, your post makes me wonder something:

If having your slides digitized so they're available on the Photoworks site is a desirable outcome, why not digitize them in the camera, thereby saving the film and processing (not to mention postage)?

Robespierre, I am perfectly willing to have Photoworks digitize my photos (for free), but I can't show them at home that way. For friends in the local area, I use slides and add my commentaries. Some day a digital projector might exist that is convenient (no external computer required) and within my price range.

Opinions certainly do change. Most of my travel shooting is now done with a Nikon digital SLR.

However, for some upcoming "long-weekend" type trips, I'll be using film.

I'll also be using my panoramic camera more, which is, of course, film. And, I have a new 645 medium format camera that's a joy to use.

Film & digital can coexist wonderfully. No need to drop one in favor of the other.
