Anybody get into Spain flying Delta recently?

A friend has uploaded her vaccination status to the Delta website to prove that she's FlyReady for a trip in October.

They sent her this:

Sorry, we were unable to verify your vaccine record for the following reason(s) Destination: BCN Error: The lapsed time for your final dose has expired based on the entry requirements. Please double check that you have received the required doses to qualify for fully vaccinated and try again.

She is fully vaccinated, and has gotten one booster, with plans to get the second.

Delta states that no more than 270 days
can have passed since one's last dose - and evidently they consider that last dose the second dose, not the booster. It's as if they don't recognize the booster, which is just odd.

Yet, the official Spain Travel Health website clearly states that a booster is needed if 270 days have passed.

In the case of a complete vaccination schedule, you should check the validity periods: this certificate will be valid from 14 days after the administration of the last dose of the complete vaccination schedule and will be valid up to 270 days from the administration of this last dose.

  • Thereafter, in order to be valid (people aged 18 and over), the vaccination certificate must reflect the administration of a booster dose. These certificates will be considered valid from the day the booster dose is administered.

Evidently Delta hasn't updated their website, but friend is worried that she'll not be let into Spain.

I'm not really worried about it, but she is frantic, so wondering if anyone here has run into a similar situation with Delta.

Sorry for the ginormous print. Not sure what that's about.

Huh, that is curious. Unfortunately, we have not been to Spain since precovid and not on Delta. We are, however, planning a trip for May of next year. We also are fully vaccinated with one booster, but planning on a second this fall, but that may put us outside the 270 days also, correct. Interesting. I hope others with recent experience will respond.

Has she tried to call Delta?

Most of the population in Spain have not been offered a 4th shot…

Maybe she can print this out and highlight the part about the booster, and check in with it at the airport.

of course, things could change between now and October.

I think Delta is just misunderstanding the requirement. The booster simply validates the vaccination and doesn’t expire at any point.

Not Delta, but we had a similar issue with the United Travel Ready Center when we went to Spain in March. There were some glitches, including not recognizing a booster. One glitch got resolved by calling, but the other wasn't resolved until we got to the airport and checked in there. It was a pretty stressful couple of days leading up to departure, but we knew the rules and could prove our vaccination status complied with them - and we had no problem at the airport.

BTW, we also had issues completing the Spain health form, which I think is still required (but do check). To get the QR code that we needed to check in for our flights (and for entry to Spain), we had to fully complete the form. One of the required fields was the seat assignment on our flight into Spain. But that flight was on Lufthansa, which doesn't assign seats until check-in. A United agent at O'Hare told us to make up a seat assignment in order to complete the form so that she could check us in.

We're currently in Switzerland, and getting here was much easier.

The Spanish health form is not required now, unless you are not vaccinated.

Oh, that’s interesting to know. I was just looking at U.S. travel guides for Spain and that doesn’t seem to have been updated.

I think I was wrong… everyone who does not have the EU certificate still has to fill out the form.

the wording is very confusing on this page…

https://www.spth.gob.es/info-pcr

but maybe the US card is still not equivalent in Spain..

ms_go - I hope you're enjoying Switzerland. I'll be meeting my friend in Spain after spending a month in Switzerland. The rules for me are different from those coming from the US, citizenship notwithstanding. Getting into Switzerland last fall was a heck of a lot more difficult than it is now, that's for sure.

My understanding is that the Health Form is still needed. No drama either way. Easy enough to fill out.
