Robespierre, How about lending me that IPAQ for our trip? Then I can report back about how well it works!
Just teasing, but I am jealous. I do love technology.
Anyone know of a program that would allow me to do what I did in Google, but be able to print the results?

Yes please add Da Buffeto's.
BTW, for those on Mac OS X, you can make the web page into a PDF easily. It may not necessarily fit on a 8.5x11 sheet though.
And where's the ones for Florence, Venice, Paris and Rome?

Wow, I never expected such praise! I really was almost embarassed to post it because I thought everyone probably had already done one.
Leely, what did you think of the area? Was it too noisy? Otherwise it seems well located. I think it's Al Bric that is nearby. I know I read about it, so I am not sure why I didn't include it.
scrb, Meg is the 20 year old DD. She will actually be in Rome about 6 days after we leave (we're meeting up in Venice though). I have started a Venice map. The problem is, it's a bit more time consuming looking for locations to pinpoint in Venice. That, and the fact that there don't seem to be quite as many good recommendations.

For those of you wishing for a restaurant map of every city in Europe, I have a fairly inexpensive answer:
o Buy a used Pocket PC on eBay (some of them are under $100).
o Download a copy of Microsoft Pocket Streets from http://www.ppc4you.com/show.cgi?softid=29
o Download all the maps you want from http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobi...mapsearch.aspx
o Select "Restaurants" from the Points of Interest menu, or
o Use the "Find Address" function to locate a restaurant and set a pushpin
o Bon appétit!

My map purposefully does NOT list every restaurant, only ones on which I have read some recommendations. Now I realize that is a broad parameter, but it is still a way to choose one over another.
Also, I started pasting a line or two from the review into the information area. The printed maps have that as well. I can see if someone said "great outdoor dining", I might not pick that one if it was raining.
I have a smartphone, and can load PDF docs into it, but the screen is so small. Is the screen on the IPAQ really big enough to see what you're looking at, without alot of scrolling?

The European version of S&T is called <b>AutoRoute</b>, and you can get last year's edition on eBay for less than $50.

Thanks for doing this hard work and sharing your maps. I wasted a lot of time printing them directly from Google map - found out it wouldn't work. Phieaglefan-what a terrific piece of work and very much appreciated. I layover in an area very close to most of those restaurants and our crews have been looking for some new spots to wine and dine at! Thanks for sharing your map - I can tell you that Enoteca Antica was good... and nearby there was a trendy (and good) restaurant.. just down the street, I'll have to check my notes and get back to you. Nearby, at 14 Via Ripetta, is Pizza Re which is still my favorite pizza place. We also ate at Matricianella which was very good (but don't get a Sgroppino there, it's sooo much better in Venice!)
For really really good espresso, check out Cafe Sant'Eustachio which is not far from the Pantheon.

phieaglefan - I tried to do this for my trip, and got hung up on the fact that you couldn't identify the markers on the map, i.e. give them numbers or letters to correspond with the list. How did you overcome that - just write them in on your printed map?
