Any suggestions?
Hi folks. I leave 3/23 for our 3rd trip to Italy, planned after reading many of your posts (I am a silent but fervent Rex fan...)
We arrive in Rome and take the train for Sorrento, staying at the Hotel Royal for one night. Any dinner suggestions?
The next morning we pick up the rental car and head down the coast to Positano. Should I sedate my aunt and mother, or just be prepared to pay for damages as they dig their white knuckled hands into the car interior? I am hoping for breathtaking views but something short of cardiac arrest.
Then it's north through Pietraroia, outskirts of Benevento, where my grandmother was born. We have some papers and names, birthdates, etc. Has anyone used the local govt. to find information on relatives? We don't expect/hope to find family, but would love to identify the church she was baptized in, etc. if still standing.
We end the day at the Hotel San Luca in Spoleto. It's a bit of a drive, I know, from Benevento to Spoleto. We are debating a stop in Caserta for the palace, is this unreasonable?
From Spoleto we hope to hit Assisi and Perugia on our way to Florence, where we'll stay for 2 nights, then 2 nights in Rome. Mom and I have done Florence, Rome, Siena, St. Gim, Cortona, etc. before, is there a 'must see' we shouldn't miss before we get to Florence? Montepulciano? Orvieto? Todi? Also, any restaurant suggestions or comments about problems travelling from recent trips would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi Laura,
Orvieto is a lovely hill town.
You can park your car near the train station and take the funicular up the hill. Your ticket is also good for the shuttle bus to the town center.
I urge you to make reservations for lunch at I Sette Consoli Pzza Sant?Angelo 1A phone/fax 011 39 0763 343911. Eat in the garden if the weather is nice.
40E pp lunch special. Worth every penny, and more.

I am very flattered if you mean that you are a "fan" of _me_ - - but I have to be consistent, and make this same lecture, as diplomatically as I know how...

Politely asking, not only to you Laura - - but also to any other newcomers reading this - - could you please mention the LOCATION of a trip, desired service or question in your message header?
It's like shelving library books in a plain brown wrapper. Wouldn't you hate it if you had to take each one off the shelf and open it to see what it is about?
Best wishes,
Rex
