Daytrip to a small town from Rome??

Hello! I would love to visit a small town that is close to or a couple of hours away. I am interested in seeing the non tourist part of Italy. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Naturally, you will need a car, and unfortunately, they are rarely a good deal for one day.

But if you do, try Orvinio - - not to be confused with Orvieto. In Rieti.

Best wishes,

Rex

Hi Belle,

Orvieto is a lovely hill town, not too touristy, about 1 hr by train from Rome.

The thirty or so minute train ride to Nettuno, on the coast, takes you to a nice little town with a restaurant recommended by Fred Plotkin. Also, there is an extremely sobering US Army cemetary there. Worth the trip.
