I have browsed all of the posts for hotels in Salzburg. But, I still need some help.<BR><BR>I decided to go at the last minute for a few days to Europe. I will be flying next week into Austria and will be staying in Salzburg for 3 nights before leaving for Germany.<BR><BR>I am in dire need of a hotel recommendation that will fit in my $70 to $100 a night budget for a doubleroom.<BR><BR>Please, give me some thoughts on moderately priced hotel accomodations near the heart of Salzburg.<BR><BR>Thanks alot!! <BR><BR>Mark

We have stayed at the Bergland (on Fodor's list) in that price range, and would recommend it. Otherwise, check a Rick Steves Germany, Austria, and Switzerland guide for lots of choices in that range.

I stayed at the Gasthotel zur goldenen Ente, At the Golden Duck in English. It is a small hotel in the heart of old town, right on Goldgasse near Mozart's statue. <BR>South of town I stayed in the Sallerhof pension because it had free parking for the car. If you don't have a car, it is a bit far out, but bus 55 goes right to the heart of things.<BR><BR>I hope you can find a web site for the Golden Duck. There was a nice one, but it is no longer out there that I can find. Since I was there, Rick Steves added it to his list of places to stay.<BR>I hope that success has not ruined the place. The food there is quite good also.<BR>At both places the breakfast, included in the rate, was fabulous.<BR>

I second the recommendation for the Trumer Stube. We stayed there a few years ago and it was a great location and only cost about $80 for a double. As I remember, at that time, though, they did not take credit cards for room payment -- only to hold the reservation.

Mark,<BR>Try the Hotel Am Dom-right across from Goldene Ente, on Goldgasse in the heart of the Altstadt. Ask for a larger room (We had #22--two bedrooms and large bathroom. The hotel is very clean, Herr Bachleitner is a friendly, kind and helpful person, and the price, 94 Euro/ nite for a large double in May, fits your price range. We checked out the Goldene Ente, and found the rooms smaller than we would like, but this too did seem like a decent low-cost choice in high-cost Salzburg.<BR><BR>We tend to like the Altstadt area, so have not seriously considered the Mozart or other hotels on the other side of the river. Others on this board, though, speak highly of many of them.<BR><BR>Enjoy your trip--Salzburg is a wonderful place to visit.

I'll also second the Goldenen Ente. You can't beat the location and the price. It was a bit noisy in the front rooms from the restaurant tables in the street below but that won't be a problem in the winter.

This is not exactly centrally-located (it's near the train station), but it's a very manageable walk into the center of town: Hotel Adlerhof, 25 Elisabethstrasse. We stayed there in 1998; booked the room at the tourist offie at the station, but you may be able to find info at http://www.gosalzburg.com/reception.htm. <BR>Reasonably priced, courteous staff, and the walk into the heart of Salzburg isn't long at all, with several decent restaurants en route.

We stayed at Hotel Nonntal in June of 2000 about a 10 minute walk to Mozart Platz or take bus 5. What a charming location, about an acre estate in the midst of a lovely residential neighborhood for about $70 US w/a great breakfast. They have an award winning restaurant with their son as chef. The owner, Otto Hummler , was wonderful and accomadating. This is a small hotel. My mother's room looked out and up at the Hohensalzburg fortress, a lasting memory. We would stay again without hesitation.

In 99 my now fiance and I stayed at a place called the County Inn Junior. It is a 10 min bus ride from the Mozart birthhouse. It was a pretty nice room in an inn run by the Werndl family. I think it was about $45 or so.
