Any good London gastropubs close to Kensington?

After doing some reading on the subject, it seems to me that most of the great gastropubs are further outside of the city... Surely this isn't true! Does anyone here know of a good gastropub within reasonable distance to the Kensington area? Thanks!

It varies! But here are a few to start with - two are in Kensington.

You must understand that gastropubs are the result of working class areas being filled with more affluent city workers leaving the old pubs unprofitable, as a result they've turned into eateries which also offer drinks, i.e. a gastropub. Kensington has always been an upper middle class area, as such, there are very few gastropub opportunities to be had.

I'm not sure what the strict interpretation of "gastropub" is, but the Brittania Pub on Allen Street does very nice food.

I never understand the lure of gastropubs. They're not particularly cheap by any standards. Why not simply go to a restaurant for a meal? Or go to a smart bar?

I'm not sure if it qualifies as a gastropub, but I had a good meal at the Scarsdale Arms.
