Broken English. It's an American film, set in NYC that moves to Paris later.

Le Divorce
Time to Leave
Les Parapluies du Cherbourg (The Umbrellas of Cherbourg)
Mon Oncle
Mon Ange

Just search a video site or see if your cable provider offers the all French pay channel. IFC and Sundance do French films all the time.

Until September with Karen Allen and Thierry Lhermitte. Not the greatest story line but great Parisian scenes.

Night on Earth by Jim Jarmusch, the Paris scene. Il a voir rien - Il est ivorien.

I don't think anyone has mentioned "When the Cat's Away". This is one of my favorites.

I also like "Until September" (sexy romance) and "The Dinner Game" (very funny).

I rented a movie called The Closet which I liked very well.

A Very Long Engagement takes place in France and got good reviews but I thought it was a very long movie.

I love A Man and a Woman. So romantic. And for old American movies set in Europe-Grand Prix.

The most successful French movie of all times is currently shown in the cinemas:

"Bienvenue chez les ch'tis"

I have just seen it - it is the funniest movie of all countries.

Anything by Chabrol. My favourite is Le Boucher, the Butcher, filmed in Tremolat in the Dordogne. The town itself is much more prosperous (and touristy) than in 1970 when the film was made, but you can still see all the locations. And village life is still not so different from what is shown in Le Boucher

From Wikipedia: Helene is a confident, slightly naive young teacher who is adored by her pupils at the school where she works and lives. She meets the local butcher, Popaul, at a wedding ceremony, and they strike up a close but platonic relationship. The film examines how Helene handles her suspicion of Popaul as a series of women in the small town fall victim to an unknown murderer.

I watched it on French television the other day, for the 5th or 6th time, and it's still one of his best.

One that has not been mentioned-

"An Affair of Love" (Une Liaison Pornographique) is excellent. I love this film.

Traveller1959, we bought the "Bienvenue chez les ch'tis" dvd while in Paris... watched it on our last night there in the apartment and we watched it again at the airport when we had to wait 7 hours between flights.

Absolutely loved it!

Carlux, I like Chabrol's the Woman next door and Le Ceremonie(the latter mostly because I met Sandrine Bonnaire and the producer, Marin Karmitz.
