Come sit next to me on the plane to Paris this spring. We'll be very comfortable and stylish in our matching black velour sweatsuits. After 4 hrs in the air, and after consuming either the lovely Chicken Kiev or Boeuf Tips in Chardonnay Sauce, we'll sit back comfortably and let our meals digest. We'll let the others around us secretly unhook the top button of their own very stylish jeans and be slightly miserable. During the train ride through Italy, I'll wear my new pink and brown sweatsuit and be ever so comfortable while I snuggle up with a good book. All around me I will notice the French and Italian woman whistfully thinking...I wish I could be JUST LIKE HER! At least...that's what I''m going to be telling myself! If stars like Madonna can get by and wear them around London, you can too!

Kinda weird that two weeks ago you planned to travel in jeans...

>> Bought several black/white tops from Gap as they can be dressed up/down as needed. Bringing 1 pair of jeans/1 black dress/skirt/2 capris and that's the basics <<

Very clever starrsville! I will still wear the Gap shirt with my very stylish sweatsuit. Funny thing happened after making that post. After ordering a lovely black dress from Travelsmith (the $69 black Slimmer Knit Dress) I had to return it. Of course I had to try it on, but after turning around I noticed I had back fat! It looked really, really bad. The dress seemed to accent the 2 rolls of fat just abound the middle of my back. Now those who have no fat, you may cast the first stone. But I hope you all are getting a chuckle out of this, because I know I'm not the only one out there! Back in the box it went and on to plan B. I do plan to look stylish, in fact I just bought a lovely black spring coat and have been matching scarves with it just a little while ago. Here's the most updated wardrobe with main emphasis on comfort, matching ability and casual style: my favorite Lucky jeans; 2 Kahkis, brown and tan; 2 Gap tops, black boots, brown shoes and several scarves. All guaranteed to provide comfort and hide all the unsightly fat bumps, lumps and humps middle age and 5 kids has brought me!

cammci.
Actually, my travel "uniform" is very similar. ALWAYS wear black jeans (with a bit of stretch) on the plane or train. Just like having pockets for ID, credit card, a bit of money and chapstick so I don't have to dig in a purse for those things. I brought other pants, but wore the black jeans most of the time on my last trip. Love lightweight cashmere sweaters. Perfect weight - adds some warmth. Looks nice during day or night events (black and fuschia colors). Lightweight quilted black jacket. Mephisto sandals and comfy black closed toe shoes - all well broken in. Capris and cotton tops (including tanks worn with a sweater) for warmer climes. A couple of varied tops to wear with either jeans or capris based on weather. I usually toss in a (very casual) fleece sweatshirt at the last minute and am always glad I have it in case things get chilly. I tuck it (and the jacket) in a high thread count pillowcase because I like lots of pillows and don't find them in Europe.

I dress for comfort and hope to be somewhat stylish...but just don't think sweatsuits (no matter how trendy) look good on adult women on the streets of London. IF I had Madonna's body (we're close to the same age) I MIGHT reconsider my thoughts on terry/velour sweatsuits for day wear in the UK. But, I doubt it

For the record - Madonna frequently rocks the vintage-looking Adidas track suits. And I've also read interviews where she explains that she wears those suits specifically so that the paparazzi won't take pictures of her. Apparently tabloids and fashion magazines aren't as willing to pay top $$ for celebrities looking like schlubs. Maybe this is the motivation behind wearing sweats while travelling...to dodge the paparazzi

Re: Madonna and tracksuits - evidently Lourdes/ Lola is not impressed -

Madonna's Dodgy Tracksuits
Her every fashion move is clocked, envied and eventually copied, but Madonna's most important style guru isn't impressed.

According to her nine-year-old daughter Lourdes, Mum's togs are just plain embarrassing.

The precocious Trinny or Susannah in the making is apparently ultra-critical of what her mega-star mother wears.

But it's not those skimpy leotards and fishnets that have got little Lola blushing with shame.

It seems the singer's love of a good tracksuit has really put her daughter's back up.

"My daughter is critical," Madge tells The Sun newspaper. "Sometimes she totally disapproves of what I wear.

"She doesn't want me to look too strange."

Lourdes
And to this particular schoolkid, the height of strangeness is those baggy, nylon jogging suits that Madge chooses to slob out in.

"If I pick her up from school she instructs me to dress normally. She goes, 'no tracksuits please.'

"My daughter has a new routine too... she goes, 'Why can't you just be like normal mothers?'"

But there is a division in the Ritchie family camp.

It seems five-year-old son Rocco thinks his mum looks "beautiful no matter what."

Take a gander at Madonna's love affair with the tracksuit in our gallery and decide for yourself if Lourdes has got a point.
