Can you review my itinerary? Thanks so much! Any feedback would be appreciated!

Rome--4 nights
Florence--4 nights
Capri--3 nights
Ravello--3 nights
Rome--1 night for early morning departure

That is almost my exact trip that I took a few years ago, it worked out
to make me fall in love with Italy because you are seeing all the different, wonderful places and in an unhurried way!
I loved each place you are visiting, and strangly for the number of days I did too. I stayed at the Rome Hilton the night before I left because we lingered so long in Positano.

Thanks Chardonnay...so do you think we should book a "cheap" hotel in Rome the last night since we won't be there for long? Also, did you feel Capri and Ravello were too rushed? Should I just pick one and do day trips? Again, I appreciate your feedback so much!

Well since we are "twins", here is what I think. We stayed at the Hilton with Honors Club because in the morning we just walked over to the gate for a very early flight. If your flight isn't that early, I would say stay in Rome for the last night at a cheaper place. But then add in the transfer costs to the airport, which is about 40Euro. With the honors card it wasn't that much more at the Hilton and they had a gigantic buffet breakfast which held us over for our connection in Germany.

Also, we opted to linger on the Amalfi Coast for most of the day and arrived at the Hilton later in the evening, instead of going back into Rome. Whichever you decide, don't fret over it, Italy is great all over.

I loved going to Capri and Ravello for three nights each, that way you aren't hurried unpacking and checking in, but you have different views and different ambiance in the different places. Trust me, Capri is the best at night, you can walk around and, oh, it is just too much to even remember without wanting to jump on a plane back there right now. I know some people dont care for Capri, but to me it is the best!
Take time to get off the beaten track and just be glad you are alive!

If you are looking for a really great inexpensive accomodation in Florence, I would suggest Pensione Ferretti. Tremendous location, clean, comfortable, and the two friendliest innkeepers to be found anywhere. A no frills stay, in a very expensive city.

No, it was meant for you. Did I misunderstand that you are going to Florence and might be looking for accomodations?

Oh, sorry. I just reread your thread and discovered you were only looking for accomodations in Rome.

I would start in Florence and end in Rome to avoid that last nite problem.

bobthenavigator...your suggestion as to doing Rome as a last stop is a great one. Do you think we'll be exhausted going straight to Florence after flying into Rome? I guess we'll be tired either way so it doesn't really matter. Also, any suggestions for Florence hotels (around 200 Euros)???

Better to be exhausted (and actually nap) on a pleasant 95 minute train ride to Florence, than to deal with the intensity of Rome before you have become accustomed to being in Italy.

Hi carriefrankel. . . I just read the last post on your thread and saw bobthenavigator and rex's suggestion about doing Rome last . I had the same itinerary as you, in terms of a few nights in Rome upon arrival and a last night in Rome at the end. Are you thinking of switching things around? I guess I didn't stop to think about the exhaustion factor in dealing with Rome. Now I'm wondering if I should head straight for AC and leave Rome til the end, too! Ah, decisions, decisions!

I agree, start in Florence, end in Rome.
No need to backtrack for only one night.

That sounds like a great itenerary. I have only been to Rome and Florence, but there is so much to do in those two cities that you can very easily spend that much time in them.

You might try the Hotel Silla or the Loggiato dei Serviti in Florence and the Due Torri or the Lancelot in Rome
