yes it is always a spoiler when you have to worry about a strike when holidays

I will be in Munich in 12 days but I am flying out, so hope no airlines strike.

Good luck to both of you.

The GDL union extracted the raises it demanded from DB for its drivers. But it wants to represent all DB workers. It's a power struggle between competing unions.

Reagan knew how to handle domestic union terrorists. He fired them and hired anew. The planes have flown ever since.

The German government needs to step in. There's too much damage being done.

If the EVG union strikes too... among them the electrical engineers, who can shut it all down...

I'd be making car reservations at this point.

The strike will end tomorrow evening.
The Ersatzfahrplan trains run more or less in time, as during the last strike.

What is GDL and DB.

Yes I remember when Reagan fired all those Airline Traffic Controllers.
It was world wide news.

Current strike is over. Parties to enter arbitration.

Union says no strikes before June 15th. Let's hope the arbitration works...

GDL is the union, DB is the railway.

@Percy

GDL = rail drivers union in Germany
DB = German Railways
EVG = rail workers union in Germany, covers all kinds of different jobs but not drivers

Since there are no guarantees that the arbitration will be successful (and, obviously, nobody can predict the future) I suppose we will fly from Munich to Verona after all. I hate to do it but the refund fee for my rail ticket is reasonable. I was looking forward to the trip, too, but what can you do? I am not taking a bus and that is for certain.

Dukey1: the Munich to Verona (and sometimes beyond) train is run by the Austrian railway system so wouldn't that be unaffected?

I have reserved a car for July just in case, although was hoping to use the German rail passes, which are quite cheap for a family (Schönes-Wochenende-Ticket, Bayern-Ticket) and doesn't tie one down to specific trains.
