Another Athens Hotel Question
We would like to end our brief stay in Greece at a nice Athens hotel the night before catching a 9 a.m. flight - walk to some little cafe - have a relaxing evening before the long trip home. Please recommend something between the Grande Bretagne & Attalos for 3 adults (1 rm). We don't mind a few minutes in a taxi to get the metro since we have to leave early.
Also, if we get to the airport by 6:30 a.m., will that be enough time before the 9 a.m. flight? Thanks!

There is really no comparison between Attalos and Grand Bretagne. Attalos is a tourist/budget class hotel with good location and a great roof top bar overlooking the Acropolis. Grand Bretagne is a 5 star stately hotel and probably costs 4 or 5 times as much as Attalos. If you want a rela treat for your last night and you can afford it then go to GB. If you want to save some dollars to spend on a blow out dinner then stay at Attalos.
Both are meters away from the metro. Having said that I do not believe the metro starts to run until 6 am. In that case you will not be to the airport until 7ish. Is two hours enough time for an international flight?

possibly consider the Electra Palace Hotel, in the Plaka section. (Don't confuse with similarly-named Electra Hotel).
Very elegant & deluxe. IIRC, Double-room rates are 200-250 euro. About a 5-10 minute walk to the Syntagma metro station.

Sorry about not being clear. I meant that we don't need something as fancy as the Bretagne nor as basic as the Attalos. We're OK w/something in the 175-250 E range for a last night splurge before being wedged into an airplane for hours & hours.
Would like to be in a nice area OK for walking, cafes (casual w/good local food), etc.
Electra Palace looks like what we have in mind. Any thoughts on a little cafe?
Re the metro: I believe their website said trains begin running at 5:30. Good to know that arrival by 7 a.m. will be time enough for 9a.m. flight.
Thanks for your help!

I've never stayed at the Intercontinental because it requires a shuttle or taxi to get to the Syndagma/Plaka area. That being said, if you do want to stay at the Intercontinental, I'd recommend you book it through priceline where it is, I believe, the only hotel in Athens you get if you bid for a 5star. People seem to be winning the Intercontinental with bids of $100.

There are many cafes/places to eat/places to walk in Plaka, where Electra Palace is located. I think you will find it to be just what you are looking for. A new restaurant within walking distance of this hotel is called Kuzina and is located at Adrianou Street 9. I like it very much.
You should definitely be able to take the metro to the airport (in my opinion, the best way to get there).
