What is the best driving route from Annecy to Nice? How long would this drive take?

use www.viamichelin.com and choose your options for determining the route.

The route planners offer a choice of routes. The fastest and easiest-to-drive route is through the tunnel de Frejus and via Torino and Savona - it is totally on motorways. It also includes some scenic sections, especially between Savona and Nice. However, this route is longer than alternative routes and more costly (gas and toll).

Instead of driving the tunnel, you may take the scenic bypass over Col Mont Cenis which will take at least half an hour longer.

The other option would be driving the route Napeleon - which will be cumbersome (much traffic) and not very scenic.

Do we need to buy a Swiss auto pass if we go the route through the tunnel de Frejus and via Torina and Savona? If so, how do we buy it?
Thanks for your suggestions and information.

Not unless you want to make a detour into Switzerland.

Traveller 1959 - we like your suggestion of the fastest and easiest route. We would like to use motorways as much as possible and avoid twisting and turning roads. Would you have any suggestions of where we might stop for the night en route - about 1/2 way or a little more than 1/2 way? We don't want to try to make the drive in one day.
