I will be travelling to Andalucia Feb 21-28, 2004. We will be staying near Malaga. What is the best city to experience carnival? We are a family, so raunchy is out! Also will there be bullfights during this time of year and do I need to get tickets in advance? Also, I would like to visit Morrocco for 1 day, again for a family, any recommendations on what to see/avoid? Should we take the rental car over on the ferry? Overall, what should I not miss in Andalucia? Thank you fellow travelers!!

When Going to Morocco Do not take your Car customs is difficult .Some people that go to Morocco take a organized tour It helps with customs you take the ferry then you are picked up by a bus .It is like going to Tijuana, But the salesmen will follow you all over the place .It was like Disneyland Ride three men escourt you thru the streets. and on que you run in to a snake charmer for a photo op .Then they take you to lunch at there friends Restaurant where you will see the uglyest belly dancer in the world. From there you go to a carpet shop where no one leaves till someone buys a carpet. Then to a local spice shop .You Get some free time shopping in one of there friends stores.Finally on to a Camel ride / Photo op a few miles away .all the street vendors that you thought you left behind followed the bus in cars to make one last sales pitch before you get back on the ferry .It is a very long day 7am to 8pm you have to catch the earliest Ferry in the AM. Malaga Has a Big week long celebration for Carnival. Note everyone wears little wine glass around there necks to par take in the celebration .

I have not been, but Cadiz Carnival is very popular and well known in Spain

Best carnival in Andalucia is certanly Cadiz. There are no bullfights in Feb so no worry for tickets, season starts in late March, April.
Now regarding Morrocco for a day, I do not think it is a good idea. Morrocco is a wonderful country but the border area, as far as you can go in one day is not nice, Italiano gives you a good description. I will rather spend some time in the drive from Malaga to Cadiz via the coast road.
If you really want to go to a different continent you can always go to Ceuta, a Spanish city at the other side of Gibraltar.

No bullfights! February 25th is Ash Wednesday, the end of Carnaval in Cadiz - probably the best you will find. I think Morocco would be a waste of time and it could be dangerous.

There's plenty to see in Andalucia like Ronda, Nerja, Cadiz, el Puerto de Santa Maria, Jerez de la frontera and Arcos de la frontera. If you want to add another country to your itinerary, head west thru Huelva and cross over into Portugal. On the way you might stop at Palos de la frontera where Columbus set out on his first Voyage of Discovery. And no trip to Huelva would be complete without a stop at el Santuario de la Virgen del Rocio on the western border of the Donana, Europe's largest wildlife preserve.
