And the Decision is...Beaune or Dijon?

Hi Tom,
Just returned from my adventures in France in Malta. Stayed in Auxerre the first night, lovely little city and it was the perfect distance from landing in Paris for our first night. We also ended up moving from Bonneiux to St. Remy, did easy day trips to Arles and Aix from there and stopped in Avignon on the way back to Paris. Also stopped in Beaune for lunch before flying from Paris to Malta. I had forgotten what a charming town it is. Anyway, I hope you enjoy your trip in the fall as much as I did in the Spring. I guess since the full tourist season had not kicked in, I found the whole South of France very tolerable, no problem driving around, finding parking, getting into restaurants, walking around, etc.
Oh, one more thing, we had dinner at L'Ange 20 when we got to Paris, FABULOUS and reasonable, thanks so much for the recommendation. Started with shrimp and had the veal cheeks in one of those unforgettable sauces, my friend has the 20 hour braised lamb, both amazing. But, looking at the couple next to me who had ordered the duck, I definitely had "meal" envy.

Thanks Pam...getting excited about our trip this Autumn. Glad you liked L'Ange 20. It's the only restaurant I will make a return to. Love to try new places, but I owe them a dinner after having to leave a day early on our last Paris trip.

We have stayed in Beaune several times and it makes a nice base. Not a small town, around 20,000 so has lots of choices for dining and hotels. We spent a day in Dijon which we enjoyed and recommend a stop there too, at least for a meal.
We also enjoyed the NW area of Burgundy, Auxerre, Chablis, St-Florentin, Joigny. My father's regiment in WWII camped out at the church in St-Florentin. Vezelay is also worth a stay. Pilgrims left the Bascilica there to walk to Santiago de Compostela in Galicia. This is a beautiful part of France filled with so much history.
