The piece I heard about this on the radio suggested that all ancient peoples had cannibalistic rituals, we just haven't found them all yet.

Why is this a surprise? Similar rituals (religions?) among many other early peoples.

After all even christianity carries this on symbolically with the blood and host used in the mass.
