amuse boosh

Not amooze. ah-muse (like the English word "muse" or "mule&quot. So the first reply by Polly Magoo is pretty correct except there is no " ..A(long a).. " as it is written amuse-bouche and not amuse-a-bouche.

Disagree kappa. there is no "y" sound in the "oo". Agree with nytraveller about the "oo" sound in bouche.

I suppose one shouldn't be too surprised at this. After all I don't speak the same way most of you guys do.

And in "our" corner of SW France, we have to tune in even when we're fluent.

Tomorrow, pronounced in Paris "dema..."
is pronounced "dimengg" in our neck of the woods.

I pronounce amuse bouche the way I hear it repeated in the great French restaurants I frequent--Chantarelle, Taillevent, Le Bec Fin, etc. If I am incorrect, no one has ever corrected me.

Still thin and gorjus.

Unlike the entrée, it's not something one should have to order.

Sheila, I don't understand. Of course there is non y sound in oo. And as Anthony put, in "Amuse" there should be sort of y sound. If you want to pronouce, ahmooze, you will have spell in French, Amouse. Comprenez?

What ! Are you ? ;-)

Just because you don't order an amuse bouche, doesn't mean that you will never have to pronounce it.

Scene: Per Se, New York City

Thingorjus, in crocodile Jimmy Choo sandals, turning to husband, Keith:
"Darling, how is your amuse bouche?"

Hi, Mimi. Jackie O sends paw prints and licks.

Just what is the difference between amuse bouche and amuse guele? I have both used. Amuse guele especially when I am at home in London.

"Bouche" is a little more refined, "gueule" more familiar, but they're pretty much interchangeable.
