Amsterdam restaurant question. For Sjoerd maybe?

There used to be a restaurant of the PC Hooft called Sama Sebu or something like that. Can't find it; do you know it? Failing that, recommendation for good indonesian in Amsterdam please.

I was just researching recs for Indonesian restaurants myself. May I post a list here, and join you in seeing what kind of feedback comes?
(the one you are seeking is Sama Sebo).

These comments were lifted from the net, not from my experience.

de Orient - Van Baerlestraat 21, phone 673-4958 Daily 5-10 pm. Many vegetarian dishes and a good rijsttafel. Conveniently located near the Concertgebouw and museums. Reservations recommended, necessary on Wednesday. Spicy, exciting food. Great for those who already know the cuisine - some items may be a little hot if you're a novice. Very good vegetarian dishes. $$-$$$. Most major credit cards.

Indonesia - Korte Leidsedwarsstraat 18, phone 623-2035 Daily 6 pm-10:30. Reservations accepted.
One of the best-known Indonesian restaurants, and a haunt of Dutch politicians, located just off Leidseplein. The rijsttafel, with its vast selection of Indonesian dishes wedded to sturdy Dutch vegetables and beef, is an experience not to be missed. $$$-$$$$. Most major credit cards.

Sama Sebo - P. C. Hooftstraat 27, phone 662-8146. Closed Sunday; Monday-Saturday noon-10 pm.
A very well-known Indonesian restaurant, located just off Leidseplein. It's often crowded with Dutch politicians, football players and society people. You can eat either at the tables or at the lively bar. Reservations accepted for table seating only. $$$-$$$$. Most major credit cards.

Kartika - Overtoom 68, Tel: (020) 618 18 79 Open Daily 17.30-22.30

Srikandi - Stadhouderskade 31 (020) 664 04 08 Daily 5:00 - 10:00 http://www.srikandi.nl/en/information.html

Thank you. If it's off the PC Hooftstraat, then that is the restaurant I was looking for, but this is not near the Leidseplein. Another one I was thinking of trying was Tempo Doeloe. Going next week, so will let you know which restaurant we went to.

Well, it's a bit south of Leidseplein, but it is PC Hoofstraat. They're probably generalizing a bit on the location description. Sort of between Leidseplein and Museumplein roughly.

Sama Sebo. We walked in long ago (because we -like you- had heard it was good), but the waiters were so arrogant and basically ignored us so we walked out again before even ordering.
By coincidence I had dinner with an Indonesian friend tonight (at his place, and he is a good cook!) and he mentioned Restaurant Desa at Ceintuurbaan 103, telephone 6710979. A bit out of the center, but according to my friend good food at reasonable prices.

Thanks; we may try that. We're in Amsterdam with our 3 children; any other ideas welcome!

I ate at Sarang Mas, on Damrak, at the recommendation of my hotel concierge. I think it was #50. It was about 2 or 3 blocks from Centraal Station. And very good.
