Amsterdam Hotel suggestions (Hotel Brouwer is full)

Is the area in which the Hotel Brouwer is located a good one for exploring the city? Does anyone know of a hotel right near this hotel? Whatever happened to The Canal House?

Maybe someone can recommend a good hotel for under $200 for us as we would like to go April 4-April 8, 2009.(The Hotel Brouwer is full for this period of time.) Or, - - - what is best, now, or in June (when our school lets out)?

I have no idea where your hotel Brouwer is but we had an excellent stay at the Hestia.http://www.hotels.nl/amsterdam/hestia/

Our room was large with a balcony overlooking the back courtyard and Vondelpark. It is a 2 minute walk to Leidersplein and excellent transport, by land or canal. The Van Gogh and Rijk are within a 5 minute walk. The rooms were large, clean and the breakfast and service excellent. It should be well below your budget. There is also wifi for a very small fee per day. I would not hesitate to stay there again or to recommend it.

I'm partial to the Eden Amsterdam - www.edenhotelgroup.com - but often cheaper through booking.com or other sites.

I'd also consider Priceline or Hotwire, as there have been some fabulous deals lately for hotels in Amsterdam. See www.betterbidding.com .

I booked a room for June 8 on Priceline last week. I got the 5* NH Barbizon for $83 tax included. It may not be in the location that you are wanting, but it will work for me. I usually do not book on Priceline this far in advance, but I was just testing with $71 bid on a 5* and got it.
