amsterdam

Could someone advise me what to do if I have a day and half stay in Amsterdam at the end of October? What should I see and where should I stay? I don't mind traveling cheaply as long as the hotel is clean and safe.

Thanks.

Post it again on The netherlands board and you will get lots of info. Also use the "search" on that board and you will have many answers already.

Ida, there is no separate Netherlands board; just the Europe board.
And the poster's question is so broad, it's impossible to answer..

Fodors and Frommers "Destinations" sections have itineraries for limited visits, and will prioritize what are considered to be 'must see' places...

If you have a map of Amsterdam, you should stay anywhere that is positioned within (or just outside) the 'horseshoe' area of the canals.

I much prefer the Leidseplein, canal rings, or Vondelpark area for a place to stay (not in "central" around the RLD and the Dam).

Are you looking for a hostel? Or a hotel?

Hi Kwankew - how are you travelling? The recommendations may be very different depending on whether it is by car, train or plane especially if you are on a budget.

I had a decent single room, shared toilet, private shower and sink, at Hotel Kap.

We liked Hotel Residence le Coin, right in the heart of old Amsterdam.

This site lists quite a few tours and sightseeing options in Amsterdam. I'veused the site before, though not in Amsterdam specifically. http://www.viator.com/Amsterdam/d525-ttd

We stayed at the Hotel Acro, near the Rijksmuseum. It was decent, clean and located close to the Leidsplein area, lots of nightlife and restaurants.

About what to see, what are you interests like? There's a lot to do in Amsterdam.

After you go to the Europe board, you can click (on the rightsite) into Netherlands.
So it looks like a seperate Netherlandsboard....

That's just searching for those items the original poster has identified as about the Netherlands. Unfortunately, not everyone remembers to add the country, nor does the listing on the left pick it up when they do - I suggested to Fodors some time ago they should add this to the post title as a way of cutting out some of the confusions that can arise.
