What part don't you think it true, it might help to say? What I wrote is absolutely true, I didn't make it up, in terms of this guy not being able to get a job there. He wasn't fluent in German, though, that's for sure. The rest of it was told me by German friends I have, so they might have expressed it differently. My understanding was that they said that you generally enter a career track when young and it would be hard for someone to just change companies and jobs at age 45 easily, for example, I think that was the idea, and get the same position. That you get seniority within a certain company. Maybe they thought it was harder than it is, don't know. Anyway, in this case, whether it is easy for Germans to change jobs and companies in mid-age doesn't really matter for the OP's situation.
