In case anyone has an irresistible urge to look it up, the Abba song is 'Mamma Mia', not Momma Mia. I remember that the blokes looked pretty silly, but their chicks were hot, as you'd expect from a quartet of Swedes.

In the US trawling refers to dragging a huge rake across the sea bottom, bringing up everything in its path. It's a commercial operation.
Trolling is essentially a sportsfishing technique, though there are still some hook and line commercial fishermen.
As for you folks suckered by Mr_Dreamer -- I'll take your travel advice with a grain of salt for a while . . .

I also always assumed troll was a fishing reference. It's an effective method, even for freshwater lakes with a small motorboat. Put your lines out (often at at various depths) with different lures and/or rigs and then troll at a generally slow speed hoping to hook something. You generally catch larger fish this way and you cover a lot more area.

Your sense of humor, along with robjame's and audere's (and dukey's, too), makes me laugh.
The only other thread that made me laugh as hard was someone's question about (I think) wearing pajamas on a fllight so he could sleep better on the plane.

I loved how this post went on and off target. Took so much out of such a dreary working nite. Only one bummer though, since we're planning a trip to Amsterdam next year I was kinda hoping the question about "smoking it on the street" would have been answered. Maybe another forum.

Pausanias and fishee, thanks for sorting me out on fishing terminology. For all I know about fishing, which is sod-all, the word could well be used the same way here. Maybe when we buy that house on the coast I'll be out there trolling with the best of 'em. (Call me Mr_Dreamer?)
And thanks ira for trying to remedy my sad ignorance about C&W. We have a variety of it in Australia but IMO it's even worse than those songs about Daddy not comin' home because he jackknifed the 18-wheeler (or whatever).

Budman, Don Williams was sort of an old school country singer from the 70's. Not many hits, not sure how I came to like some of his songs.
Funny about the C&W tangent. My parents listened to Hank Williams Sr, Jim Reeves and such. I was a little more partial to the Doors, Talking Heads, Ramones and such, other than my shameful solitary forays into twangsville as mentioned above.
I did alway thing the David Allen Coe song was kind of cure, since he figured that mom, prison, trains, trucks and drinking are the only suitable subjects for a true-blue country song.
I was drunk the day my Mama got out of prison.

It is not considered polite to smoke pot while on the streets of Amsterdam. You should smoke in the coffeeshops created for this purpose. Otherwise, perhaps in your room if the hotel permits (or out the window), or very discretely in an unobtrusive way in a park. Marijuana is a tolerated substance but it is still a drug so be considerate. You may encounter some who choose to be obvious but that doesn't make it a desired behavior.
