Amalfi Coast - Sorrento hotels
I am trying to decide between the Excelsior Vittoria, Hotel Royal Sorrento and the Grand Cocumella. The Excelsior is a little more expensive than Grand Cocumella and the Royal is quite a bit less expensive than the other two. Since I am not familiar with the location of the hotels in Sorrento, I would like to know if someone has a recommendation on which of these hotels is the best one to stay in. Any advice?

Winrock,
we stayed at the Excelsior Vittoria in 9/01 and LOVED IT.
They picked us up from the airport in Naples; we had a room that was beautiful & huge; a balcony that overlooked the mediteranean that was nearly a big as our room and had a view of Mt. Vesuvius (heaven) in a hotel is all I can say.
The morning buffet was wonderful; each room in the hotel was like living in art. Dinner on the outdoor terrace was superb. We thought we were in heaven.
I would love to go back to this hotel and spend a week.
They have their own elevator to the "beach" (it is not really a beach but it is were you catch the ferry/hydrofoils to Capri and the rest of Amalfi Coast.
This is a great hotel.

Ditto for the Excelsior - we loved it. The rooms are huge and have great views. And we especiallly liked the garden to wander in - I had never seen lemon trees in fruit before - and the aroma was fantastic.
Also we used the pool a lot - great to relax after a day of touring.
And the location in the cneter of town - within a couple of minutes walk of everything was great for finding fun restaurants for dinner.

The Cocumella is in a part of Sorrento called Sant 'Agnello which is about a 20 minute or so walk into downtown Sorrento. In July, we stayed in an apartment (Villa Cavalieri) on the grounds of the Parco dei Principi which is next to the Cocumella. In fact, our apartment diningroom windows faced the back terraces of the Cocumella. The Grand Excelsior Vittoria is more centrally located. I am not exactly sure where the Royal Sorrento is so I can't help you with that one. We liked the location and loved our apartment!
