amalfi coast or cinqu. terra?

I am traveling with my 17 year old daughter. We will be visiting venice, rome, and florence. Should I go to cinqu. terra or amalfi coast?

How long is your trip in total? If you only have a week or so, don't go to either without giving up one of the cities. Amalfi is much more developed with some posh hotels and jammed with traffic. Cinque Terre is more pedestrian-friendly and small-townish, and you can walk the trails between them and take the train back. Both are gorgeous. The beaches aren't terribly good in either place.

BTW, it's cinque terre -- five places -- (cheen-kwey tear-eh) and the endings of the two words (adjective and noun) must match in Italian.

HI m,

As C points out, you might not wish to go to either.

However, the CT better fits your itinerary better than does the AC.

When will you be going?

i'll be going the last two weeks in july. Since i'll be going to major cities (venice, rome, and florence) think that ct may be better. I am flying into venice. would I take a train from venice or rome to ct?

If you plan to visit Venice, Florence, Cinque Terre and Rome, I suggest an open-jaw flight into Venice and out of Rome. Take the train from Venice to Florence, from Florence to CT and from CT to Rome. It is a lot to fit into two weeks and will have you spending the better part of three days on trains but will leave you about 2-3 days to spend in each of your destinations.

Amalfi is one of the most breathtaking places on earth! You can't beat mountains sliding down into the med sea - ahhhh. I've been to CT twice and a couple of the villages are particularly beautiful(and popularly photographed) but Amalfi is somewhere I NEED to return to.
