Amalfi Coast

We are planning a trip to the south of France this summer. The small town of Atrani has stuck out to me as a potential home base for a few days. I like that it's small and charming but close to other larger cities. I was curious if anyone had any hotel recommendations in Atrani?

Jimmieb: I tried responding to your Private Message but could not so here is what I said: "Not a big deal since you did not label the post as France - I've been to Amalfi twice but know nothing about hotels but Atrani seems to me a great choice and buses or boats along coast make it easy to get around - Amalfi, Ravello and Positano are musts but you can take ferries in summer to Capri too." If you will have a car is fine but definitely not needed here and the sinuous coastal road is very mobbed in summer - ferries so nice to get along the coast.

Cheers!

AFAIK, the ferry doesn't stop at Atrani, and you'd have to go to Amalfi. The buses do stop at Atrani. They would probably be fairly empty coming from Salerno, but on the return trip, buses will be packed like sardine cans. Be prepared to stand most of the way.

The municipality of Atrani has a surface area 0.12 km², making it the smallest in Italy. Population was 855 in 2017.> Wikipedia

Sounds like could also be mobbed in summer -Jean points out hassle of basing in Atrani with no ferry service and potentially crowded short bus rides. I liked Amalfi the town just several kilometers to the west.

Look at the Luna Convento, between Amalfi and Atrani. There are few hotels in Atrani itself, unless new ones have opened in past few years. It's not much of a town but beach is ok.
Buses will be packed. It's' not only tourists who take them, but many ambulatory vendors who live in Salerno go back and forth from that city to the towns of the AC.

Thank you all for the information. I think we may look to go earlier in the year and stay in Amalfi or Positano. Appreciate your time.
