amalfi area trip help

Traveling to see pompeii, the museum and the coast. no desire to spend time in naples because have heard about the dirt, crime and hassle- especially the changing trains.I was leaning toward staying in sorrento .. want to take the hydrofoil to the center and walk up to the museum.Like where I can walk around,go to the store etc. coming from rome and want the easiest most comfortable

Hi,

If you are planning on staying in Sorrento, the easiest way is to train to Naples and take the Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento.

You won't have to see Naples, unless the museum you refer to is the Archaeological Museum in Naples for the Pompeii artifacts.

You can stop at Pompeii on your way to Sorrento.

First of all, don't be afraid of Naples. Take a deep breath, relax and you will enjoy it. My suggestion would be to go directly to Sorrento and on day two take train to Pompeii ( only 20 minutes). Go early to miss crowds.

There is a Rome-Sorrento bus service, operated by Marozzi once/twice daily, with departures at 07.00 and/or 15.00.
Here's the link:

http://www.marozzivt.it/marozzi.htm

Buses leave from outside Tiburtina station in Rome.

This service also goes via Pompei.

Hope this helps ...
