Altitude 99

We will be in Paris the 3rd week of October and have reservations for dinner (Saturday night) at Altitude 99. Since we know this is a "tourist" resturant, our husbands would like to know if a coat and tie are really necessary?
Any in-put would be appreciated!

I think it is Altitude 95 - you may want to repost.

I had dinner there 2 years ago and most men had coats and ties on, but not all.

You are eating in a nice restaurant in PARIS - dress up for crying out loud.

Hi Joanne,

I agree, especially for a Saturday night. If the menfolk show up in golf attire you will, at best, end up at the worst table in the room.

As my mother used to tell me, "A jacket and tie for one night won't kill you".

This is why it is a good idea for little boys to go to private school. They get used to wearing a tie and jacket, so when they grow up it isn't such a foreign experience.
Or maybe that is the problem, some guys just don't want to grow up and dress the part!

get with it, people. a coat and tie is no longer a symbol of good dress. even the Four Seasons in New York has accepted the idea that jackets are not required at night.
I'd rather see a guy in a $400 designer silk or linen shirt and beautiful slacks with a $1000 pair of loafers, than to sit next to Elmer Fudd with a polyester leisure suit and a K-Mart tie.
good dress is a matter of taste, not specific articles of apparel.

And a matter of taste does not equal $$$. I've seen people in expensive clothes look worse than Elmer Fudd before.

I don't think I would recognize $1000 loafers.

You can't tell from the shoes they cost $1000.00...It's the guy wearing them constantly telling people how much they cost that gives it away

A few weeks ago my friend and I decided to see if, by chance, there were any tables available at Altitude 95 or Jules Verne. I'm wearing black khakis and a black sweater, decent but not dressy. when I asked the maitre d' at Jules Verne, he didn't say anything at first, just looked me up and down very slowly, then said they didn't have any openings for 3 months. The Altitude 95 representative had less attitude....she just said "no!" But I am definitely planning to take a jacket and tie on my next visit.
