Alhambra Sold Out, Should I still try Granada?

As per my previous message, I was unable to secure Alhambra tickets in advance, as they had all sold out, but decided on taking a risk and trying for tickets anyway. On Friday 8/20/04, I woke up early and was in line at around 6:30 AM. (Lucky for me I stayed at the Hotel Guadalupe, right across the street from the Alhambra.) There were already about 30 people in line in front of me. With 2000 tickets available for sale, I stopped worrying. A little cafe on the premises was open early, so I was able to get some juice and a pastry while I waited. By the time the ticket box office opened up at 8:00 AM, the line behind me was incredibly long--I won't even try to guess how many people, but I would advise against getting in line just prior to 8 AM. I was quickly able to secure a ticket for entrance into the Nasrid Palace for 8:30 AM without a problem. One would be well-advised to enter the palace at that time, as I noted more and more people filling up the palace ever half hour. Basically, if you're going to Andalucia, you mustn't miss going to Granada to see the Alhambra, even if you didn't purchase tickets in advance, even if it's peak tourist season. Get in line early (6:30 AM) and you will be all set. Ignore anyone who advises you 'not to risk it', as there is really no risk being taken if you get up early enough. Again, if this is your first time in Andalusia, do not skip Granada and the Alhambra, no matter what!

ttoally agree. my friend got tickets through a tour from the hotel . no problem . they secure plenty of tickets so they can offer their daily tours.
also, go the to the parador at the alhambra and have a drink on the terrace overlooking the gardens. great views.
good luck. and dont miss the crypt in the cathedral of the catholic kings and their children. beautiful.

My personal views are:
!. Granada is nothing without the Alhambra.
2. Granda is a mustsee but not on this particular occasion.
3. Córdoba is fabulous.
Fact.
I have done some notes on Andalucia and put a lot of stuff with photos on other boards.
E-mail me if you want details and/or notes with [email protected]
