Thistle Trafalgar Square
Hi all,
I believe this is the hotel we will go with. Apparently I can get it for 110 pounds a night, which is fine, and, it's bang in the middle of Trafalgar Square/Leicester Square close to Covent Garden, Soho etc.
it looks fine, clean, spacious - anything quirky I should know about this hotel before I commit? Should we ask for a top floor room, to avoid the noise (or is it unavoidable, etc.)
thanks!

Hotels in London aren't high-rise, having a room on the fifth as opposed to second or third floor won't really have much effect. It's a good position for the real touristy areas of London.
110GBP is nothing, no reason why you shouldn't go for it.

I stayed at the hotel last spring. The room is a little small but clean, no noise I could notice of. The public area is less grand than Thistle Charing Cross; small breakfast area, could be very busy in mid-morning.
I just booked B&B for 92 pounds for this month through londontown.com.

Hi Flygirl, You don't say when you are going. We are going in less then 4 weeks and staying at Thistle Trafalgar Sq. We booked it on Londontown for 84GBP/nite! I found it and now I really feel great about it. What a deal! On tripadvisor most of the reviews were good and even the negatives were not really bad. Like I said, I don't know when you're going, but I will report back when we return. Hope that helps you out.

A forum correspondent wrote in October 2003. When we got to our hotel around 10:30, we were able to check in right away. I know the advice here is to stay awake that first day and go to bed early, but that just does not seem to work for me, and since we were able to check in so early, we slept for a few hours. We stayed at the Thistle Trafalgar Square (115 pounds including VAT and breakfast). I felt that this was a great choice. You could not be closer to all the bus stops in Trafalgar Square (and of course, if you want to take the Tube, it is close as well), plus Trafalgar Square proved to be a great spot for all sorts of things going on. The room was small, which I expected, only the size of a night table between the two twin beds, but with a closet and dresser. The bathroom was decent size, and the shower was terrific! Lots of water as hot as you could possibly want it and plenty of water pressure. Sure felt good at the end of a day of sightseeing! The people at the desk were helpful if needed. The included buffet breakfast included eggs, sausage, cheese, yoghurt, fruit, croissants, beans, grilled tomatoes, mushrooms, hash brown potatoes, bacon, basically anything you want. You could also order toast if you wanted it.

thannk to everyone - Ben, nice to see you again!
zwho, that would be grand. would love to hear about your trip!
I booked it last night, the price went up slightly to 118 a night - plus VAT, but, we are right in the middle of it all so we won't be spending much on transport really.
I could have booked a simple twin for 84 pounds, but we wanted the largest room possible so we got the deluxe twin. I think we did well!
our last night in (we are doing 3 London, 4 Rome, 1 London) we are staying at the Thistle Victoria as we land at Gatwick at 1030 or so, and it will be nice to have the hotel near Victoria Station.
