Algarve - What to wear in January

Happy new years, Fodor friends.

it seems like the weather in Lagos will be low 50’s to low 60’s when we’re in the Algarve next week. Would sandals look out of place at this time of the year? How about pants that fall an inch or so above the ankle? Thanks for your advice!

Me personally -- I'd never take sandals on a January trip -- anywhere in Europe.

I'm with janisj,
I wouldn't take sandals. I most definitely would take pants. You may have rain and depending on where you have decided to stay (Lagos, Albufeira, Tavira?????), you may have wind as well (more so on the western side of the coast).

Thanks Janisj and Maribel. No sandals!! What do you think about the pants? Would pants that hit just above the ankle look too spring/summer? Appreciate your thoughts!

I don't think length makes a difference -- more a matter of fabric. I have several pair of winter-appropriate ankle length pants - wool - wool blend - knits, etc.

What janisj said, as always

It´s the fabric that matters. On the Algarve coast I think that above the ankle pants would be perfectly appropriate on a nice, sunny day.
