Alcohol in Turkey?
Is most alcohol readily available in Turkey? Is is expensive? What is good and reasonable that is produced locally? Can we bring our own into the country? Just planning a long trip and wondering about spirits, beer, wine, etc.

Yes, not an international choice everywhere.

Is is expensive?
No

What is good and reasonable that is produced locally?
Efes is o.k. Turks drink Raki.

Can we bring our own into the country?
Within the customs limitations

Never had a problem accessing alcohol in Istanbul, not sure about the rest of the country. Efes beer is ubiquitous, Turkish wines are readily available, mixed drinks are expensive but readily available at clubs and bars.

Istanbul and tourist hotels pose absolutely no problem for alcohol. You might not want to ask for a whiskey at the coffee shop next to a mosque in the provinces.

I would never bring my own. Half the fun of travel is trying the local stuff.

There was more than enough alcohol in Turkey when I was there. Beware the homemade raki out in the provinces.

Yes, booze is easily available and not expensive. Efes beer is available eaily. Raki is a Turkish liquer that tastes like anise/licorice and is similar to greek ouzo.

Whe we stayed at Lares Park Hotel in Istanbul, they even had complimentary sparkling wine (from Turkey) on the breakfast buffet.

One of the most elegant Turkish wines is Villa Doluca (both red and white). I also like the heartier Buzbag and Güzel Marmara.
