Airplane wardrobe

Peeing and brushing my teeth are about all I do in the head. I leave washing up and applying make-up to my seat. Some sort of wet wipe equivalent works fine for freshening up---don't tell anybody, but I use one that's marketed as a "feminine freshness" product; I don't smell like an infant, and they're easy on the skin. Applying make-up in public is definitely not the sort of thing I usually do (I don't even re-apply lipstick at the table), but this is definitely more considerate than tying up the bathroom for 10 minutes when other people are waiting. If you are in the habit of doing this, please realize that the rest of us may need to pee. Desperately.

I'm actually one of those people who gets off the plane looking pretty good: rested, hydrated, mostly unwrinkled (my clothes, I mean). I've actually gotten compliments from French flight attendants.

I agree with Therese, if there is something that I absolutely must do in the bathroom,I will go in there, otherwise, I sit there beside my husband, next to the window and do my little makeup fixing routine, brush my hair, use little wipes to clean my hands and an Altoid for my mouth until we get to the hotel, where I usually soak in a hot tub for a while.
I like to wear soft loose tops with a long slim skirt and chunky shoes that I can slip off.
Or in the summer,I wear a light long dress, with my faithful pashmina for chilly airplanes etc.
This year we will be going on holiday by car,no wondering what to wear there!
I don't think that safety has been mentioned. In a fire, heaven forbid, acrylic, nylon and other chemical type fabric could melt and burn you. Cotton wouldn't, nor wool. Leather oxfords would protect the feet better and allow you to run away faster and would stay on better.

Don't wear the high heels on the plane! They can be dangerous in the event of an emergency landing (puncturing the slide), and they're not much good for staying stable if you're standing when there's turbulence. Besides, I always wear my bulkiest shoes on the plane so they don't take up space in my bag!

I will do the minimum in the messy airplane toilet, then take a couple of minutes after we've landed to do the rest of my freshening up. I'm not a big makeup wearer, but brushing teeth, washing face, etc. goes a long way toward making me feel awake.

Also, for those of us still wearing contact lenses, I take them OFF immediately upon boarding the plane, and leave them off until I land, then I put them back on again. My eyes feel much better as a result.
