Airplane/Airline choice
Following up on last week's thread regarding the "worst seats in Economy", please let me know which you would choose, and whether there's really a significant difference. Flying SFO-Cairo.
Choices are:
Delta Boeing 757 to JFK, Delta Boeing 767 JFK to Cairo.
-OR-
Lufthansa A340-200/300 Portland to Frankfurt, Lufthansa A300 Frankfurt to Cairo.
(either way returning on United non-stop from London on a 777).
I know neither will be great, but wondered if one will be significantly better than the other.
Thanks!

I don't think there is much difference between them. I've been happy enough with Delta's international service, but the long domestic flight on a 757 is never fun. Lufthansa does not win many awards for coach comfort, though.
If they are equal in price, I would choose based upon frequent flyer miles.

If there's little difference in price (and FF miles aren't an issue) I'd pick LH. Just a matter of personal preference, but I really dislike the 757 on long flights. Just too cramped and very little chance to move around.
We've flown LH 8 times in the last 4 years and have had above average experiences. Coach is never fun. Seats were no different than others, but FAs and service was quite good, food certainly above average (and plentiful), generous with drinks (free) and several rounds of snacks during transatlantic portion. The A340-200/300 doesn't have personal IFEs (use drop down screens) but that isn't a major issue with us.

Well, I'd avoid JFK if possible. Crowded, often delays.
Have you looked at www.seatguru.com for seating details?

We made our flight reservations last night, using seatguru to the extent possible (it didn't have the particular plane that goes from Frankfurt to Cairo, but that flight is only 4 hours, so no biggie). We decided to fly Lufthansa to Frankfurt/Cairo, and return on the non-stop United flight. Thanks for your help.
