A hotel in Norden, northern Germany has started charging guests by the kilo for an overnight stay.
The price is half a euro per kilogram up to a maximum of 39 euros.

Is this hotel a houseboat or something? I don't get it. If you don't bring bags do you stay for free.

Zeus, I think the hotel is charging for the weight of the customer, not his luggage.

But since everyone who weighs over 172 pounds is going to pay the maximum of 39 euro, I really don't get it either.

Anything to get publicity, I suppose, but it makes you wonder whether their furniture and/or foundations are quite up to scratch....

I did like the gimmick that SAS hotels in Europe were doing a few years ago. Seniors over age 60 got their age off in discount. If you were 60 you got 60% off the room rate -- 75 and you got 75% off. And yep, you guessed it. If you were still traveling at 100 all your rooms at SAS were free.

I'm not sure that airlines would get away with charging by embonpoint, but it would be fair to weigh customers with their luggage. Lighter people would be able to take heavier bags.

People who advocate basing air fares on body weight never seem to like the idea of single mothers with a gaggle of toddlers getting the bargains and filling up the plane.
