airline schedule change causing me problems with Prague, need advice

I just got an email from Volareweb changing my flights for my trip this summer. I was to fly from Venice to Prague and then 5 days later from Prage to Milan - on nice, mid day flights. Now my flight gets into Prague at 10pm at night, and even worse, my flight into Milan is from Midnight to 2am!

So the questions I'm hoping you guys can help me with are - will I have any problems arriving in Prague that late? This is my first solo trip so have no hubby or anyone with me for support. I was going to take public transportation but now I guess I'll have to take that shuttle van. Does it run that late? Some one say something to convince me it won't be scarry/dangerous to be arriving and finding my hotel at that time.

Other question. I can fly daytime from Prague to MXP but not on the day I want - so will have to shorten Prague to only be there from Friday at 10pm to Tuesday at 2pm or add an extra day and stay till Thursday 2pm. My last three nights were to be in Como so that would mean now I either got 4 nights there or only 2 (one day basically). By the way, the first 6 days of this trip are in Florence.

Or does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks

Are you staying in a hotel which offers "shuttle service" to and from the airport? If so, I suggest you consider using that and paying for the convenience AND the peace of mind.
Schedule changes can be problematic to say the least; pinching pennies and then agonizing over it is far worse.

Weel, if I had to give up a day somehwere it owuld definitely be Como - not Prague. We arrived in Prague about midnight - but by train - and it was pretty quiet - but there were several cabs waiting at the station and the transfer to the hotel was uneventful. I don;t know where you're staying - but if its a small place definitely let them know in advance - so you're sure there will be someone available to let you in. At our hotel the bell man was on break(?!) and we would have had to haul our own bags (which we could have done - but I really don;t appreciate having to be pack mule woman at this stage of life) but the hotel's security guard volunteered to help.

See http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34493052 for Isabel's reasonably positive resolution of the Volare dilemma.

Best wishes,

Rex

Hi isabel,
I agree with Singletail. See if your hotel can help you. If you feel unsafe, ask them about having someone meet you. Also, I would spend more time in Prague than Como (my opinion of course). Happy (and safe) travels.

I'm glad Rex pointed out that posting about volare doing a refund. As I was reading the thread I WAS thinking that with such substantive changes in the schedule, you'd have grounds for a refund if you want to try to rebook this.

IF you do keep your arrangements, use the suggestion of having your hotel arrange for a taxi to pick you up. Prague "free-range" taxis have iffy reputations. Also, do confirm with your hotel regarding your late arrival, to make sure they don't consider you a no-show after 6pm and give your room away. I don't know which hotel you are staying in, but some small hotels and pensiones shut down their front desks during the wee hours, so if you are staying in a modest place make sure you can get to your room so late at night.

3 days in Prague would be doable but not optimal imo--4 or 5 days would be better. It's a great place.

I have a file on Prague and one on Florence; if you'd like to see either, email me at

Thanks Elaine, I emailed you. And thanks everyone else for your support about this. As I said in the other post, Volareweb did end up refunding my tickets - and were very nice about it.

I booked myself on Czech Air instead - only slightly more money and slightly less convienient times. Getting to Prague is now no problem and I get into Milan (MXP) at a somewhat reasonable 8:00pm. But now I think rather than trying to get all the way to Como at that hour I'll just stay at the Hotel at the airport. That will leave me with two days so I can do day trips to Como and somewhere else. Or I could move to Como for one night but am not sure that would be worth it. Anyone have any suggestions?
