Airfrance 777 or 747?

I flew on AirFrance in May and one flight was very comfortable and the other pretty cramped. I'm not too large
but the seats were so uncomfortable on my outbound flight.
Unfortunately, I threw away my itinerary but I know that one flight was a 777 and the other was a 747. Does anyone know which one of these AirFrance planes is the more comfortable? I'm thinking it might be the 747 because these were recently given new seats. Please let me know if you can clarify this for me. Thanks

What route were you on? Coach, Business or First?

If you're in coach, their new 777-300 should be more comfy. Seats are slightly wider with wider armrests, and the seat cushions slide forward when you recline.

The route was Los Angeles to Paris and return in coach. The difference in planes was big to me. One had cushy, leather(vinyl I imagine) seats and the other had fabric that felt like they were just covering some cardboard.

I just found my ticket stubs and looked up on www.seatguru.com. I believe our return flight must have been the 747 because on the 777 for that seat, we would have had no one in front of us and this was not the case.

I hope I've got it right because I booked our trip in September on the 747.

Back in May:

For LAX-CDG:

AF69 is all operated on 777-200ER (772).

AF65 is 772 for May 1 to 7. From May 8 on, it's been upgrade to a 777-300ER (773).

AF72 is all 747-400 (744)

For CDG-LAX:

AF72 is all 772.
AF62 is 772 till May 7, 773 then on.
AF70 is all 744 (744).

AF70/71 are thrice weekly CDG-LAX-PPT (Papeete, Taihiti).

Note that AF operates about 16 passenger 744 of various age. 3 of them (registration: F-GITH, F-GITI & F-GITJ) are very new (delivered 2003-4), and from the photos I see, they have individual screens and new seats; the rest are delivered 1993 or earlier. Since 70/71 are premium route for AF, I guess they should use those 3 aircrafts more, but I don't think it's guaranteed. I see lots of pictures of older AF 744s from 2005 at LAX even after those 3 new birds had been delivered.

The 772s definitely have the older seats, while the 773s all have the new ones.

So, I'll suggest you try to get the daily 62/65 on the 777-300ERs. They have great new seats, and as I mentioned, wider armrests. And you'll sure to get those seats, unlike AF70/71.

I think this should answer your questions.

Looking at AF's flights, while many routes been switched to the 777, many are 744. One of the Montreals, one of the JFKs, San Francisco, Miami, Rio, Sao Paolo, Johannesburg. So, I don't think you are guaranteed one of the 3 new planes for LAX.

wow, where did you get all the info? It's great.
I checked my ticket stub and the flight from LAX to CDG on May 1st was 069. That was the one that was so uncomfortable. It looks like it was the 777-200. We flew home on the 14th and our flight was 070. I remember there were people on our flight coming from Tahiti so it was the 744. Must have been one of the newer ones. I would love to get one of those again but I guess it's the luck of the draw. Maybe I can see if those flights are the Tahiti route
