Both are quite useful. Here's another good site:

It lists fares on websites that in some cases are major typos but are honored if booked when the typo was listed. SOme of the deals are $11 hotel roms and $30 trasnatlantic fares.

kodi -- I tried a lot of these sites before I booked my tickets on May 2. The sites were helpful to determine which airlines had my routes and to give me an idea what prices were. I really liked Kayak.
Unfortunately, I found no great bargains; still got our best fares directly from airline.
