Airfare price to London
I just started researching my trip to London January 1st from Washington DC but so far Virgin Airway seems to be the cheapest. I'm continuing my search but just wanted to know is $438 was a good price?

It's a good price but not a great price. At sidestep.com, I see fares departing Jan 1 and returning Jan 8 or 9 for $337 or $357 (the fares are from Orbitz).
Use the WAS code for D.C. and the LON airport code for London and that will get fares for multiple airports in each city (IAD, DCA, BWI and LHR, Gatwick).
sidestep is really good.

I've found really good fares in the past leaving on Dec. 31.
Prices the first week of January tend to be okay (like the fare you found), but not great. A lot of UK expats are flying back to the US after their Christmas holidays and the airlines take advantage of that.

British Air is having a sale (i beleive good for flight leaving through 4/4/04). The sale is until 9/25. I just booked a flight leaving 4/2, mulit-leg (jfk-madrid-london-jfk). The price was $495 (incl taxes). I priced it leaving 4/5 (after the sale dates), it was up to $1,700! See http://www.expedia.com/daily/promos/...03/default.asp
for details of sale. If your flight falss into this offer, odd are it's a good price.

I am also just beginning to look into this. We're planning to fly (round trip) from San Francisco to London toward the end of May, staying appx. 17-18 days. I looked @ British Air & found a rate of $539, but don't have anything to compare this to. We may, however, decide to fly into Heathrow and return home from Paris (we're still in the very early stages of planning at this point). I'd just like an idea for reference, if you all could be so kind.
Thanks much!

Let me rephrase that...
re: "I don't have anything to compare this to."
Obviously, I have other airlines to compare with, but I don't know if rates are high or low at this present time. Does that make a little more sense?
