If there any sale fares left on AF, I am not finding them for the dates we're contemplating - - not even just to/from CDG. In a curious twist, United evidently has a $480 fare (nonstop, RT, all-in) and I don't see anything on united.com to indicate that this is a limited time promotion (i.e., to match AF), but she is sitting here shrugging her shoulders at the idea.

I guess that much of this thread has been me talking to myself... and when... and if... the right trip "speaks to us", we'll know it.

Maybe it will be clearer when we get back (leaving Tuesday - - see http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34795084)

Thanks to all who offered input.

Rex, just so you know, you're not alone. I'm trying to help my mother along for a late Christmas present, and while we have the Paris part set, we haven't gotten the second half of our trip set. A dilemma of too many choices.

As both deadlines near, it is truly time that I let both deals go unless I wake up with a great idea.

Hi all, I'm reporting in with 30 minutes left to both the Air France sale and Alitalia sale.

Since my mother didn't express much interest in Madrid (!!!) or Naples (!!!), this daughter is going to keep the money she stashed away for her mother's Christmas present and wait for another sale to come our way, hopefully sometime in the fall.

In the meantime, I hope others were able to take advantage of the deal. Enjoy your planning! I'll be following right behind you hopefully.

Rex, did you finally decide?

I saw this post just niute after you put it here, and decided that I was going to let indecision reign. I actually succumbed to the ntion that othr sale fares might still be there today -- UA and others had very much competing fares.

But alas, they're are gone (or essentially doubled this morning).

Something is going to call to me in June, and hopefully, I will know it when I see it and lock it in.

Okay, en days later (I am back from the Caribbean now; trip report to follow), and a certain amount of procrastinator's remorse... haven't seen anything sub $500 on my radar screen (for example, WAS to anywhere in Italy, for the second half of October) since this pair of sales ended (not that I watched obsessively while in the Caribbean). Even NYC-PAR seems to have few, if any October bargains - - AirIndia at "$320", though taxes and service fees on Travelocity bring it to $549, all in!

Anyone else seeing ANY deals to/from ANYwhere in Europe for October?

For what it's worth, as an alternative, there are still some really good deals (clear through Apr 2007) to SJU (San Juan, PR) - - has a relatively "foreign country" feel to it!

Rex, I just have to sympathize with your indecision, and had almost started a post about "traveler's indecision"...is it a codable diagnosis in the DSM?

I ended up scooping up AF tickets for December, but only at the last minute...my procrastination cost me in that we will be taking a somewhat longer trip than I might have planned--couldn't get the exact dates, as they had already been sold. Moreover, each ticket cost me an additional $60, because we were traveling on a Sunday.(?) I don't understand that nuance, but oh well...We'll visit my daughter's exchange student's home in Aix for part of the trip, and spend the rest in Paris. Paris gets so dark so early at that time of year (there's part of my ambivalence), but, it is still Paris!

At least I made that decision with clarity. I have been experiencing a bit of ambivalence on a more immediate solo trip to France. I appreciate your comment: (and if... the right trip "speaks to us", we'll know it.)

I sometimes think that making these travel plans involves one's gut on some level, and I feel much better when my gut tells me that this is a good thing to do! Hope that yours confirms a good travel choice in due time!

All the best,
letour

I guess I should start a new thread on this specific question - - since this thread has more or less run its course... huh?

ORD-MAD, $562 all in on Iberia - actually cheaper than the AF fares when you count taxes. Pretty good for Hoosieristas.

EWR-LGW, $537 all in on Virgin/Continental.

I know this is OT, but Iberia's business class ORD-MAD is $2392 round trip, most likely in their wonderful new business beds - http://www.airliners.net/open.file/0732166/M/ Pretty good deal.
