They had a sale like this in 2003 when I went. I ENJOYED Paris in November...I am thinking of going back this year for my Paris fix...and I need to see Malmaison. I've got this thing going on with the Bonapartes.

As always, the devil is in the details. Out of curiosity, I went through the process of costing out this "deal" for my family from Los Angeles to Paris next December. The final roundtrip price per person including those pesky taxes and add-ons was $775. This is nearly $100 more per person than the fare I actually did book on Air France about three months ago (before the spike in fuel prices).

It worked for me. Just booked Boston to Paris round trip for February vacation week at $385 including tax. Did this last year too, got bumped both ways and ended up with a free trip. Almost the same deal they had last May when I booked that one.

The promotion worked for us just fine, so we booked two trips.

The first is Los Angeles to Venice, Venice to Paris, and Paris to Los Angeles. Price was $549 plus tax, for a total of $668 per person. The promotion allows one free stopover in Paris on the return flight.

The second trip is Los Angeles to Rome, Rome to Paris, and Paris to Los Angeles. It was the same price.

We obtained all of our first choice travel dates, except for one. Apparently it is a popular travel date, so when the quoted fare was higher, we just chose a different date. So we ended up with a Saturday return from Paris instead of a Sunday return.

In March 2005, we checked in at Air France/CDG for a return flight to Los Angeles. The flight was overbooked, and they were asking for volunteers to take another flight. We volunteered and received vouchers good toward future travel. We were able to use our vouchers toward these tickets.

Out of curiosity, I checked on flights from Los Angeles to Paris roundtrip. I was quoted $499 plus $87.70 tax, for a total of $586.70.

Since we'd rather go LAX-CDG without having to change at Heathrow via BA, I checked out our August-Sept flight dates. Came up with a total of $2,675.40 for two in coach. Some sale! Did I figure it wrong?

Alas, it's no bargain from PIT. But happy travels to all of you for whom it's a good deal!

I looked at the AF website but only found specials that end on October 31st. Can someone give me the exact URL for the ones starting November 1st?

Thanks very much.

Underhill: try http://www.airfrance.com

Click on: USA Site

Then click on: Early Bird Specials, Paris from $299. Start booking May 4th.

You will be taken to a page stating: Purchase by May 15, 2005. Departure from November 01, 2005 to March 31, 2006.

I hope this helps.

Tried it for middle of November and the site kept saying there were no return flights. Maybe it was a glitch, so guess I will attempt it again.

I priced it from Chicago and it was more than we paid on Delta right from our home town rather than 100 miles to O'Hare. We paid $349.00 when we went to Paris a few weeks ago. With all taxes.

They had an ad for this sale in my regular newspaper a couple days ago and I saved it as it really looked very good. I usually fly out of Wash Dulles to Paris, and for some reason I don't understand, fares to Paris are often not on sale from IAD on AF, even when they have their sales from other cities.

However, the ad included DC, and the rates they quoted are legit, not just one-way. I'm sure they vary by the date you want, but I just tried RT IAD to both Paris and then Rome in mid-January. I figured the fares would be available then, if ever, and they were.

RT, the total fare from IAD-CDG was only $387 ($299 plus $88 in taxes) and it was only $452 RT for IAD-FCO (Rome). That was $349 plus $103 in taxes. Those definitely were RT, as the one-ways were only $149-$170 or so.

That's exactly what they advertised, RT from $299 plus $50 for other cities.

I couldn't find a special web section on these fares, exactly, the Early Bird section seemed to just lead you into the regular fare checking webpage, but the rates are a real bargain if you choose the right dates, apparently.

I have been trying to follow the directions for a flight from Boston to Marseille with a stopover in Paris on the return. The website doesn't seem to be functioning according to the directions they posted. Has anyone else tried this and gotten it to work?

I also cannot get the multiple destinations to work for me. I can get straight roundtrip to CDG from BOS, but no multiple destinations. I am figuring it is because there are no flights available on the dates I am putting in, but I don't really know.

LOL - SuzieC - I love how you have a *thing* going on with the Bonapartes!!
