Air Fares higher this year?

Is it just me, but I find that airfares are much higher this year.

I'm going from Sacramento, CA to London on 8/30 - 9/11 and I'm finding nothing under $1200 +/- . It seems it was cheaper in the past year...maybe it'll get cheaper when I'm just 2 months away from my trip? Or could it be that I'm including Labor Day within my dates. I'm even flying out on a Thursday and coming back on a Tuesday, traditionnally slighter cheaper days. I guess the price of gasoline is playing a role in this, but it's crazy! Oh, well, it won't stop me from going but I was wondering if others are having the same problem? or are my dates part of the problem, unfortunately, I can't really change them...

Hi L,

Yes, airfares are higher this year (mostly).

Yes, including Labor Day is more expensive than going after Labor Day.

I thought so -- but I'm meeting with my parents in London, their first trip ever to Europe. They are in late 70's and going on a grand tour of Europe, however, on their first day of their trip in London, they have the whole day free, so I've volunteered myself to be an amateur tour guide.

A couple hundred dollars or so are worth it to me to share that experience with them.

What city are you going to?

Would you consider flying out of SFO?

Or maybe even Las Vegas?

For example, on your dates, Northwest offers an itinerary of San Francisco to Dusseldorf for $667 total, according to ITASoftware.com .

If there are going to be three of you traveling, that would be a savings of over $1500 compared to the fares you have found, minus whatever extra transport costs you would incur.
