Baaken, the world's oldest amusement park may delight your 11 year old more than staid Tivoli in the city center - and Baaken's admission charge is free. Take a S-tog train to a short walk to the entrance. lots of free entertainment as well for all ages.

An 11-year-old boy would probably get a big kick out of climbing the spiral staircase up the outside of the steeple at Our Saviors Church. I know my kids loved it when they were 14, 11, and 9. Also, a day trip to Kronborg Palace in Helsingor. It's an old fortress on the coast, just across from Sweden. It has a dungeon. My kids also loved Tivoli.

The Viking Museum in Roskilde for a daytrip. When I was there they had a lot of outdoor games and demonstrations in addition to the indoor exhibits, as well as a great boat trip on a traditional Viking-style vessel where everyone pitches in and rows. According to the museum's website, there are outdoor activities on weekends and public holidays in May.

The hop on and off canal boats are also fun. Some of the bridges they go under are really low.
