Advice on our Beaune itinerary

We will arrive in Dijon, pick up a car and be in Beaune on April 5. We will have two full days there, staying at the Hotel Grillon. Would like to visit a few wineries, eat coq au vin and beef bourgundy and see lovely sights. Any suggestions for a two day itinerary of places and restaurants would be most welcome. Please include any contact info it you have it. Thanks everyone!

You'll enjoy the Grillon. We always stay there. If you've never been to Beaune, I recommend taking the horse & carriage tour to get a feel for the old town. Then you can easily walk to the places that interest you. The tours leave from the front of the Hotel Dieu. Be sure to visit the Hotel Dieu before you leave. It's not a hotel, but a museum. It was a working hospital until the 1970s and they have a marvelous museum set up inside. It has the "typical" Burgundian roof of colored tiles which is quite spectacular.

I did a search on Beaune in the search window above and will recommend the following threads about Beaune.

If you have a car and want to do something outside of Beaune, Nuits-St. Georges is north of Beaune on the N74. You can visit wineries there and they have a new museum called the Cassiseum. They manufacture excellent cassis (black current liqueur) that is used to make the aperitif Kir (with white wine) and Kir Royale (with champagne). You can tour the factory and then go back for a tasting. They serve kirs in several flavors. There is also a movie. If you speak English, you go to the English language movie and you will have an English audio tour as you trundle after the French tourists taking the tour in French. The women who do the tasting all spoke excellent English and were a lot of fun. There is, of course, a gift shop where you can purchase kir glasses and various kinds of cassis. The entire process doesn't take very long and is lots of fun.

You will no doubt want to visit the Wine Market in Beaune and the threads above suggest a couple nice restaurants.

Enjoy your trip. We're looking forward to hearing your report.

You might want to try Ma Cuisine or La Ciboulette for dinner. Also, we enjoyed Jardin des Ramparts. All are in the city proper. You will love Beaune.

The the 20-minute drive out through Savigny-lès-Beaune (good tasting there) to Bouilland and have a meal at the Hostellerie du Vieux Moulin--1* food at moderate prices in a delightful setting. On the way you can visit the ancient church of Ste. Margaret and see some beautiful, green scenery.
