One other option would be to take the sleeper train from London to Edinburgh. That would give you an extra full day in London and arrival in Edinburgh first thing in the morning.>
Great tip from janis! I've taken this train - the Caledonian Sleeper several times and IME they are for night trains amongst the tops in Europe - breakfast in bed in some classes.

ScotRail - which runs the trains I believe - official site has some nifty discounted tickets if you book far enough in advance - also saves times like janis says and the cost of a night in a hotel.

mia, your new itinerary looks fantastic. i did have a question however, (and apologies if you've already covered) Why are you devoting all this time to Ireland if you've both already been twice? Is it to see his sister? (on your honeymoon?)

Hi Tailsock! We're spending 5 days in Ireland because one, we do love it (London, Dublin,we're such Anglophiles!) and yes partly because of his sister. Not all from his sister's family will make it to the wedding, so they're just insisting we stay with them for a while. Which is all right with us.
