Advice for Munich/Berlin early December

There is a fare of $419 including tax from Boston to Munich return from Berlin. The bad news is that it is on United and goes to DC first. Return is Luftansa. 12/7-12/14. We can just stay in Munich or go to Berlin. We would be meeting friend's DD & SIL in Munich and stay w/them in Berlin. Is there enough to do in Munich for a week instead of going to Berlin? Have been to Berlin. Friend was there last month. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I certainly wouldn't allow that diversion from Boston to DC cause me to buy a more expensive flight.

Are you saying that those people would come to Munich to meet you and that if you went to Berlin you could stay with them there?

If you've been to Berlin but not to Munich then I would at least spend a couple of days in Munich; you could also do day trips to the castles and even to Salzburg if you wanted to.

You say you've "been to berlin" but are you also saying there is nothing else there that you haven't seen?

DD and SIL are staying in a 4 or 5 star hotel in Munich for a meeting and can make arrangements for us. We could stay in Munich and do day trips or go back to Berlin and stay with them. I just don't know which way to go. I like Berlin a lot and would find things to do. Thanks for any input. I am in a crunch because it must be booked today and my research time is limited.

Air France - change in Paris or Northwest - change in Amsterdam?? Any opinions?? (And I may be the last person on earth who likes Air France.) About 1 1/2 hours in between for both.

What's the difference in airfare?

Berlin can be cold lots of times; no needs to avoid it because of a "possibility" that might not happen

I still think there is enough to do in AND in the surrounds of Munich for a week.

It's $419 w/stop in DC, $428 Northwest and $458 Air France. I guess friend would like to go to Berlin.

Actually the temps for Dec are about exactly the same for Munich or Berlin - so glad logos corrected me - i had thought Berlin had a much colder climate for some erroneous reason.

Lots to do in Munich and area. Get a Bavarian train pass if sans car and it will take you dirt cheaply to Salzburg, Austria, Rothenburg, Fussen and Mad Ludwig's Neuschwanstein, or other Mad Ludwig creations at Chiemsee or Linderhof, or to cutesy Oberammergau, or just out to Dachau, on the edge of Munich, or to Regensburg - all Wunderbar places if you don't find enough in Munich for five days, which you may well not, at least during the winter.

We loved Munich - spent 5 days there last summer and wished we had more time since we didn't see everything we wanted to In the winter though, sightseeing may go faster since I can't imagine you would spend nearly as much time in the beer gardens and hanging out in the parks as we did.

Thank you all for the replies. We are going on Air France and also going to Berlin. Friend was there last month but wanted to go back. This just came about this morning and I was a bit frazzled by it. Now to research Munich!
