Advertising...

I was browsing, and I found this post from Katie in re how to deal with advertising:

this is definitely a problem. We hope to add a flagging tool in the future that will make it really easy to report these types of threads.

In the meantime, as our moderators are unable to read every post (and some are very subliminal) we really appreciate it when our users send threads on to us. The easiest way to do this is to click "share this with a friend" at the top and send it to [email protected].

the old [email protected] now seems to be only about the guidebooks.

thanks, kybourbon!

Sometimes it works to send the advertisers to [email protected] and sometimes it doesn't do a bit of good.

Oh - but it is much more fun to abuse them for a bit before alerting the forum monitors >-)

A technical question:

Doesn't it damage these lowlifes more to reply with lots of horrible stories about themj? That way, anyone googling "Sam's Luxurious London Hotel" gets lots of references to fleapits and cockroaches, and sooner or later they realise they're shooting themselves in the foot.

Or does this merely boost their search engine rankings a bit?

Hmm, if there are no fleas or cockroaches, you are libelling friend Sam.
There's an outside chance that he might sue.

You could always try

"Is that the Sam's Hotel where they say XYZ?"

You'd only be asking a question....

Once again, you show your true colours!

Ah no. I'm with Janis in this. Advertisers abuse the forum. What's wrong with abusing abusers? They don't deserve better.

But isn't it often a gray area. Someone who recommends a B&B with enthusiasm could be suspected of advertizing. What Janis is suggesting should not helpful and unkind.

Meant to say what she is suggesting is NOT helpful.

I'm with Janis too.

I think we do pretty well at spotting the advertisers. It's been so much easier since registration - a first-time poster who recommends a B&B with enthusiasm sticks out like a sore thumb.

If they don't take the hint, the best way to chase them off is to abuse them

Steve
