Accomodations near Agrigento, Sicily

In planning a trip to Sicily sometime soon, I would like to get suggestions of where to stay in or near towns such as Sant Ana,near Agrigento, and Villarba, and Villadolma. These are towns that my ancestors were from and really don't know of the distances or main town nearby where my husband and I might stay. Also, what airports would be nearby to fly into and out of. Thanks.

I would suggest that you buy a detailed map of Sicily and do a little of your own research.

Sant'Anna di Caltabellotta is in the province of Agrigento; Agrigento is a largish city.

Villarba is the Sicilian pronunciation of Villalba, which is in the province of Caltanissetta. Caltanissetta is also the name of the main city in the province.

Neither Agrigento nor Caltanissetta is richly endowed with hotels, but there are a few in each city. You might also consider an agriturismo in one or both regions.

Villadolma must be something else. The only thing Google brings up is your own question about Villadolma in an earlier thread on this board.

The two main airports in Sicily, Palermo and Catania, are about the same distance from the regions of Agrigento and Caltanissetta.

Thanks, Eloise. I just made a typo on Villarba, -- I did mean Villalba. My husband's grandmother actualy pronounced the town as Villa Arba and I had a heck of a time trying to find it on a map until I wrote into another forum and they told me about the pronounciation. Thanks, I'll have to do some homework.

I found your "Villadolma" on a Web site listing all the towns and villages in Sicily.

Its real name is Valledolmo, and it's in the province of Palermo. I have no idea how close to or far from Palermo it is.

So your best bet is obviously to fly into Palermo rather than Catania.

Check out the Verdetechnica B&B near Scaccia as a good mid-point. They have an ad on slowtrav.com
