Any nice hotels around Monreale or Segesta, Sicily?

We are looking for a nice hotel or inn around Monreale or Segesta in Sicily. It sounds like a couple of places in Erice are ok, but hit or miss as far as rooms go. We're trying to avoid staying in Palermo, although we will take a bus or train in to the city to visit it. Any suggestions in the area would be welcomed.

Thank you very much.

You might want to search the postings of GAC. He (I'm assuming!) is a frequent poster and seems very knowledgable about Sicily. I find his comments really helpful.

Cheers,
Linda

I think you may be lacking responses because it seems that most people do Monreale as a day trip from Palermo, and Segesta as a drive-by of sorts on the way to somewhere else. This is what I did. Any particular reason for skipping Palermo? It's wonderful!

Here's my trip report for Sicily, maybe it will help you if you do go to Palermo, Sciacca, Ortygia and Taormina:

Thanks AP for your message. I read your interesting trip report (b/4 I posted this question), and found it very informative. I don't plan to skip Palermo, I just didn't want to try to find a hotel there. Sounds like the traffic, and lack of careful drivers are not something I want to deal w/. I'd rather stay outside the city & take a bus into the center. I will be visiting the places you mentioned as well as a couple of others. Thanks again.

Here is a link to a post which mentions a hotel called Baglio Conca d'Oro, which, I gather, is near Monreale.

There is a more recent post about it, but I'm no longer sure that what I said there

http://www.fodors.com/forums/pgMessa...2&tid=34540160

-- that it was under the same management as some of the more prestigious hotels in Sicily -- is true. It is still true, though, that the Terms and Conditions seem somewhat restrictive.

I think the Web site I gave in my reply to the previous message was not of a hotel management company but of a hotel booking company.

The terms if booking with the hotel directly

http://www.baglioconcadoro.it/home.htm

may not be as restrictive as those of the booking company.

I agree with AP6380 - why not stay in Palermo ? We stayed there for a week 2 years ago & loved it - would go back tomorrow. It is so interesting. We had been touring Sicily by car but turned in our car when we reached Palermo. We stayed at the Grand Hotel Villa Igiea which is on the outskirts but runs a shuttle bus to the centre, so we just used that & taxis when necessary.
