My wife and I have 3-4 days to spend in Sicily before we go on to Naples for 5 days. Would appreciate any sugestions on how to maximize our short time period.

Stay in Taormina the whole time and take days trips from there.

I was supposed to stay in Palermo 2 days but only stayed one and rented the car a day early. I found that that was enough to see the city. I agree that Monreale is great to see - especially if you're staying in Palermo for 2 days.<BR><BR>Besides Taormina, I really enjoyed the sights of Siracusa - wonderful natural and man-made "ruins"...<BR><BR>Dona

You do not need a tour or a van. Taormina is walkable to everything major that you would want to see.

I've toured the entire island of Sicily &amp; my favorite cities were Siracuse (especially Ortygia), Cefalu, Taormina, &amp; Palermo. Cefalu &amp; Taormina are both beautiful coastal towns; Cefalu has a little more character &amp; is not as touristy as Taormina, but either town is great. You should experience Palermo at least for one day. Also, a &quot;must see&quot; is the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento.

I can't believe no one's mentioned Mt. Etna ! If I was going, and certainly hope to do so one day, I'd include an expedition to see the volcano. Or as another poster mentioned, you can explore the Aeloian Islands, which are off the north coast of Sicily --- take a ferry from Messina to Lipari. Lipari is the largest of these cluster of islands.
