I recommend Hotel L'Ancora in Positano. It has a perfect location (right next door to Le Sirenuse for only half the price). The views from the rooms are stunning. You are only 4-5 minute walk from the Marina and the beach. It does not have a pool but you can use the pool at the sister hotel (Covo). Since you are going in July, you probably won't need a pool anyway, the beach is very nice there.

Lots of choices in Positano if by "very nice" you mean you don't mind a very nice price. The Sirenuse would be the top pick, also the Poseiden and the Cove di Saraceni. In Taormina, the San Domenico Palace is the loveliest hotel and you have a great view of Mt. Etna from the pool. Slightly less expensive is the Ducale.

Hotel Villa Ducale in Taormina is my recommendation. The nicest people, the best food, the best view! Alas, there is no pool, but they have a free shuttle to the beach!

http://www.hotelvilladucale.it/eng/homepag.htm
In Taormina, I spent a beatiful night in the Grand Timeo, We loved it we were enjoying a bottle of wine on the balcony (which is bigger than my apartment in NYC) and had called the bell hop for a couple of plates, for snacks we bought in town, when he told us there was a lunar eclipse... Great...

We stayed at The Poseidon, a lovely 4-star hotel about a five minute walk uphill from Sirenuse. If you go, make sure you request and get a room with a view. SOme of the rooms can be small. We were lucky enough to get booked into a jr. suite with a sweeping view ( great terrace!) of Positano. The food at the Poseidon is unbelievable, esp. at lunch, and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. They do have a small rooftop pool near the restaurant, but it is more for a brief dip than anything else.
